There is no doubt that social media has changed our lives forever. Because of social media, we now do things that were completely weird or frowned upon before.
We no longer feel weird about knowing all the details of our neighbor’s summer holiday in Greece, or befriending someone on Facebook whom we have never met.
Here are other things that became completely normal with the rise of social media:
1. Taking photos of strangers

Before social media, taking photos of people you don’t know was a totally unacceptable act that could land you in trouble if you did it. But this thing became almost normal post social media. Most people no longer feel weird about seeing a camera pointed in their direction or appearing in your Snapchat story. They might even smile at you or photo-bomb your shot!
2. Spending 5 minutes photographing your food

Your friends will sit patiently and watch you take 10 photos of their salad or pizza before they dare to touch it. They might even remind you that you haven’t photographed your food before you shove it in your mouth! How un-social media friendly is that?!
3. Talking to your phone

Pre-social media, we might have felt embarrassed about talking to our phones while people are watching us. We even found a quiet corner in the cafe to make that Skype call. But now we don’t really care if everyone around can see us talking to our screens and making funny faces for our Snapchat stories or Instagram videos. We do that with confidence and pride!
4. Posing for selfies

I still remember how people used to get really self-conscious about taking photos of themselves while awkwardly holding their cameras backwards without knowing if they are actually inside the frame or not. They even waited for other people to pass by so they could take that selfie. But now, we don’t even look twice at people who suddenly stop in their tracks to snap a quick selfie while doing a duck-face or a blowing a kiss.
5. Leaving your day job to become an influencer

Five years ago, if you told anybody that your job is being a social media influencer, they wouldn’t have a clue what you were talking about. But today, it is a legitimate job that everyone wishes to have! It is perfectly normal now to charge thousands of dollars for posting a photo on your Instagram page, and no one will think you are silly or shallow for having such a job.
6. Thinking that your life sucks

Did you know that there is now a clinical condition called “social media depression?” it comes from watching other people’s seemingly perfect lives, fun holidays, expensive purchases and romantic moments on social media and thinking that your life sucks and can never be as awesome as theirs! Some people might also feel mildly depressed or annoyed if they don’t get enough likes on their photos or if certain people don’t like or comment on their posts! It is very normal now to “unfriend” or be upset with someone because they didn’t like your photo or didn’t send you a Facebook flower emoji on your birthday!
