Senegal have won the 2016 Africa Beach Soccer Cup of Nations, after defeating Nigeria, 8-4 in the final played on Sunday at the Eko Atlantic. Nigeria's Super Sand Eagles, having qualified for the 2017 FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup in Bahamas, were hoping for a third African title but lost to Oumar Sylla's men despite taking the lead.
This follows their victory in the semi-final, after beating Morocco 6-1. Goals from Abu Azeez, Suleiman Ogodo, Emeka Ogbona, and Emmanuel Owhoferia, gave Nigeria victory in what was seen by many as a one sided game. African champions, Senegal had defeated Egypt 5-2 in the first semifinal and have also qualified for the world beach soccer championships.
