SOS : Police Shoot Protesting Students At LAUTECH

Men of the Nigerian Police Force fired live bullets at students protesting the prolonged closure of the Ladoke Akintola University Of Technology (LAUTECH). The university which is jointly owned by the Oyo and Osun state government has been shut down for six months following a protest over the result of the SUG elections. The nonpayment of the school’s staff also led to a protest by the school’s ASUU chapter. Academic members of staff insisted that until their salaries and allowances are paid, the results of examinations will not be released.  The peaceful protest by students on Friday morning was met by brute force by the Nigerian police who arrived the scene in tanks. Several students were injured after the police started shooting into the crowd and at the time of this report, the casualties have not been confirmed.
